The NFL Update (6-11-09)

Hey guys. Welcome to the June 11, 2009 version of The NFL Update. Let's get a move on, some juicy stuff coming in for us today!
Mike Brown Visits the Cleveland Browns

Former Chicago Bears safety, Mike Brown, visited the Cleveland Browns yesterday, according to Reservation for Six. Most of my updates will be coming from Reservation for Six, so check them out, too, because it is a great NFL up-to-date blog.

Brown also visited the Chiefs last week but the Chiefs didn't look like they'll sign him. Brown has been consistent throughout his career, and never missed a game. He has only missed one game in his career.

If Brown was signed by Clevleand, he and Abram Elam will compete for the starting spot. Brown looks to win, though, as he has been the heart and soul of the Bears, and now looking to be a leader with Cleveland, if signed.

Sanchez Gets a Big Money Contract

I will now be calling Mark Sanchez this: "Big Money" Sanchez. He got a pretty big contract yesterday, a five-year, $60M contract. Now that is pretty big!

According to NFL Network, Sanchez is the highest-paid player ever in New York Jets history! With this deal, he averages $10M a year, according to the Six. But the deal looks to mean nothing, as Sanchez has struggled during the OTA's.

The Jets have also said that if they were to start a quarterback now, it would be Kellen Clemens.

Saints Sign OT, Help Out Morgan

According to the Six, the New Orleans Saints have signed offensive tackle, Anthony Davis. They have also filled Dan Morgan's void by putting him on the Reserved/Retired list. Morgan tried to return to the NFL before the draft, but announced his retirement once again. The Saints will now be looking for a new linebacker to fill in for Morgan. Who could it be? Derrick Brooks? That could work. Rob Morris? Maybe. We'll see soon.

Seahawks Add and Cut Two

According to the Six, the Seattle Seahawks announced the signings of two players, as well as the releases of two players.

The 'Hawks signed linebacker, Tony Taylor, and fullback, Dan Curran. The lonesome-fellows that are released? Fullback, Tyler Roehl, and linebacker, Tony Fein. See something that matches. I won't tell you, but you'll see in there.

Ocho Cinco Gets a Little Ink in the Face

The Six reports that Chad Ocho Cinco has tattooed his face. Here is what is on Chad's face, according to what Mike Floro of Pro Football Talk has said:

"We’re told that, on one cheek, there’s a small cross. The other cheek displays an image of the state of Florida. Finally, the letters 'OC' appear on his forehead."
Chad looks to improve this season, after having his worst season last year. He also looks to have a "new look" this season as he finally has a new name on the back of his jersey (you all know what the name is) and with the tatoos. Some crazy stuff, but hopefully, it can help.

Jim Mora Talks About Mike Vick

Michael Vick's former coach, Jim Mora, says that Michael Vick deserves a second chance, says NFL.com. People asked if Mora would want Vick on the Seahawks. Mora responds:

"You know what? It's a sticky situation, one I'm not comfortable talking about. The fact of the matter is, Michael Vick is a member of the Atlanta Falcons' organization right now. For me to be speaking on him would be speaking out of turn. I'll just say this for the record: We are very happy with the quarterbacks we have on our roster. We have no intentions of adding another player to our roster at this time."
More Signings

Remember my new segment called "More Signings?" Well here are some more signings for today.

  1. Tampa Bay Buccaneers sign draft pick, Xavier Fulton (OT).
  2. Chicago Bears sign their draft picks to four-year deals: Juaquin Ilglesias (WR) and Jarron Gilbert (DE).
  3. New York Jets sign Reggie Hodges (P) and release Eric Wilbur (P).
NFL Clip of the Day

I now have a new segment called "NFL Clip of the Day." I just give you an NFL video that you'll enjoy, and yes, you will enjoy it. It is about the feud between Rex Ryan and Channing Crowder. Here it is:

Thank you for reading The NFL Update. More updates coming right at you!
